Which One Should You Focus On?

Zoosk is one of the most popular dating sites. Available
in over 80 countries and 25 languages, it’s responsible for a wealth of
long-term relationships and marriages. A quick sign-up process and easy access
to a huge user pool make it a winner, especially among people searching for
serious romance.

Tinder is one of the most popular dating
apps. Launched in 2012, it impresses with a really huge user pool and is
responsible for more than 10 billion matches made up to date. While the company
claims it addresses all singles, the truth is that Tinder is more suitable for
the young and restless looking for short-term romance and hookups.

How to Choose a Dating
Site

Choosing a
dating site – or service in this case – is a tad more complicated than imagined.

People of
different ages tend to prefer different kinds of platforms.

Then, there
is user preference and overall site behavior to consider.

The first
thing you should weigh in when choosing a dating platform is the type of relationship
you’re looking for.

Do you want
a one night stand or look for serious romance?

Are you
comfortable with never seeing a date more than once or twice? Or would you like
some commitment?

In the
former case, Tinder is undoubtedly a great choice.

In the
latter, go for Zoosk.

Why?

We’ll see
in a moment.

Availability

When looking
for a dating site, most users tend to consider availability first. After all,
in a game for two, there is no fun when you’re playing alone.

Not surprisingly,
both Zoosk and Tinder have international availability.

Zoosk covers 80 countries and is highly popular in
the US, Canada, and the UK. It is translated in 25 languages and has a big user
pool.

Tinder is currently present in 190
countries and expanding. Not only it has a huge user pool, but according to its
statistics, it counts over 1.4 billion swipes a day. One point four billion. Now, if that’s not availability, I really don’t
know what is.

Winner: Tinder

Popularity

One point
four billion. Need I say more? Tinder is undeniably one of the most popular
dating apps on the planet. Surprisingly though, it has fewer members than
Zoosk. Tinder receives about 10 million visits per month despite having a
staggering number of members. Zoosk, on the other hand, has around 25 million
visits per month.

The gap
might be explained by the huge difference between the platforms. Zoosk attracts
singles looking for a long-term relationship or marriage. Tinder is appealing
to a younger audience that often looks for one night stands and short-term
relationships.

And that’s
how the small fish beats the big one without too much struggle.

Winner: Zoosk

Sign-up Process

Like you
could expect from two platforms that are so different, signing up is equally
different on each.

Zoosk offers a straightforward signup process that
requires you to fill in your email address, choose a password, and fill out a
quick questionnaire. Signing up takes about half an hour, and once you’re done,
you have full access to the platform.

Full access
doesn’t mean that you can interact with people, though. While being a member is
free, chatting with potential dates isn’t. But more about plans and costs
below.

Signing up
on Tinder is incredibly fast, but the
platform comes with one major drawback. You have to sign in with Facebook.

If you don’t
have a Facebook account or wouldn’t want to use it for dating, that’s too bad. Sure,
you can create a Facebook account, then sign up to Tinder.

Whether you
have the account or not, signing up requires 10 minutes tops. That’s why most
people love it. After all, if you want to have access to the fun fast, Tinder
is the way to go.

Winner: Tinder

Features

When it
comes to features, Zoosk may win the round. Being a dating site created for
singles in search of true love, it has a wide range of features developed to
help you find the best possible match – Tinder kind of lacks this versatility.

Perhaps the
best feature is the behavioral matching that finds you a compatible partner
based on your personality.

Zoosk also
features a compatibility score function that shows you how compatible you are
with a member and has various games you can play to find new matches.

Tinder doesn’t
have any of these, but that’s not necessarily a downside. It is a simple app
that does what it’s supposed to do. Match you with those you like.

There is no
behavioral match, just a match based on your preference. The app doesn’t have a
search function, and that could be a drawback; but all in all, it’s a fizzy and
fun app to use when you’re in the mood for a hookup. After all, this is how the
greatest love stories are born, isn’t it?

Winner: Zoosk

Quality of Matches

Both Zoosk
and Tinder count millions of members, most of whom are genuine. And they both
have an excellent quality of matches – it’s just that they aren’t the same
quality for all members.

If you’re
looking for long-term dating or marriage, you’ll like the quality of members on
Zoosk. If you look for one night stands or no-commitment relationships, you’ll
find yourself better on Tinder.

Considering
that you’re probably tackling the idea of online dating because you want to
find a long-term partner, I’m gonna say Zoosk is a whole lot better than Tinder
for the purpose.

Winner: Zoosk

Aesthetics and Interface

Both platforms
have clean aesthetics and easy-to-use interfaces, but Tinder seems a bit easier
to navigate. Perhaps because it has fewer features, but overall, it’s quicker
to learn how to use Tinder compared to how to use Zoosk.

User responsiveness
is excellent on both. You can expect push notifications on mobile from both
apps, but there are a few differences too.

Tinder sends
notifications when it founds a mutual match. Zoosk shows you who visited your
profile.

I prefer
Tinder more on this aspect, as it’s easier to get a notification than checking
a website section.

Another nice
feature on Tinder is the Two-Way Opt-In messaging system that prevents
strangers from sending unwanted messages.

Winner: Tinder

Pricing

Like most
serious dating sites, Zoosk and Tinder are not free, at least not if you want
to fully enjoy the website features. While pricing is similar, Tinder knows how
to do business better than Zoosk, by offering different prices to the younger
audience.

Indeed,
Tinder Plus comes at only $9.99/month for people up to 30 years. If you’re 30
or older, you can expect to pay $19.99 per month.

Besides the
plus plan, Tinder also has a Gold membership options. Prices, in this case, go
up to $29.99/month, but you’ll get more perks.

Zoosk has a
sole price plan, which might be okay for most folks but a bit too expensive for
younger singles. You won’t have the flexibility to pay less either if you don’t
want to use all the services offered by the platform.

Zoosk Subscription length Price/month Tinder Gold Subscription length Price/month

Three months $20.00   Six months $18.83
  Six months $12.50   12 months $12.50
  12 months $12.50

Who Is It For?

Simply put,
Zoosk if for singles decided to find eternal love. Tinder is for those
committed to endless nights of fun, not necessarily with the same partner.

While you
can find the love of your life or a hookup on both sites, there seems to be a
clear preference of one over the other, depending on what you’re looking for.

Both apps
address people of all ages and sexual backgrounds. Yet, Zoosk tends to be more
heterosexual-oriented while Tinder is more liberal. Due to the striking
differences between the two, it’s hard to decide who wins this round. I’ll call
it a tie.

Winner: Tie

And The Winner Is…

Surprisingly…
or not… the winner is (drum rolls)
Tinder. It’s fresher, younger, and has a multicultural spirit that we love.

It’s
available in more countries, really easy to use, and you can find anything that
you want on this easy-going platform.

Zoosk is
undeniably a great choice too. If you want a long-term relationship, is
probably a better bet.

Ultimately,
is down to you.
